Hours: 2 half days a week, Exercise Circuit
Under the supervision of the Physiotherapist, the PTA will provide an exercise circuit twice a week for clients attending the Seniors" Health Falls Prevention & Bone Health Program. They will assist clients to complete exercises and activity logs. They will provide education as required on safe completion of exercises in class and instructions on a home program. They will liaise with the interdisciplinary team members regarding individual client progress and will document as appropriate.
Key Qualifications:
- Certificate from a Physiotherapist Assistant Program or Certificate from both an Occupational Therapy Assistant Program and Physiotherapy Assistant Program
- Evidence of continuing education and personal development is required
- Experience working with older adults with evidence of holistic approach to care
- Kinesiology and/or Personal Training courses or Older Adult Specialist certification is an asset
- Knowledge (courses/certification) in Adult Learning Theory is an asset
- Experience in psychosocial issues is an asset
- Current Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support required
- Reliable, flexible, creative, self-directed professional with demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members, to exercise good judgement, critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to perform as a coach/mentor and to use sound critical thinking skills is key to achieving client outcomes and to facilitating team function
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- A positive work and attendance record is essential
Position Summary:
As an active member of a multidisciplinary team, the PTA will:
- Set up exercise circuit
- Provide client-centred clinical care for assigned clients under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist
- Provide goal-oriented treatment interventions, and client/family education and support to address physical, emotional and self-care needs as assigned
- Provide timely and astute information to relevant team members about client"s performance
- Participate in program planning, continuous quality improvement and evaluation
- Conduct follow-up or reminder telephone calls
- Enter program data / statistics
